The Current Building Evolves

The work to expand and update the Museo Tamayo building, planned and constructed by architects Teodoro González de León and Abraham Zabludovsky, is already under way. To that end, INBA entrusted the executive project of expansion to the architect González de León. The expansion includes the construction of 1,600 square meters.

With the expansion, in 2010 the Museo Tamayo will have two new exhibition galleries: one to show the work of Rufino Tamayo and another to exhibit the permanent collection. Additionally, the Museum will have more space for children’s workshops, which will allow the Museum to attend to more schools and students. Furthermore, to reach its commitment to be a center of study, it will have a complete, extensive, and fully functioning library of contemporary art.

It will also have a more adequate place for the gift shop and space for a restaurant. With better installations, the Museum hopes to attract more visitors and to improve the quality of their experience in the Museum, which will also enrich the life of the cultural corridor of the Bosque de Chapultepec.
