La colección del Museo Tamayo está compuesta por más de mil obras de artistas nacionales e internacionales. A lo largo de su vida, Olga y Rufino Tamayo consolidaron un importante acervo que posteriormente fue donado al Museo Rufino Tamayo. Su intención era ofrecer al público mexicano la oportunidad de conocer arte internacional de la más alta calidad y representativo de los distintos movimientos surgidos después a la Segunda Guerra Mundial. El conjunto incluye piezas de algunos de los artistas más reconocidos de la segunda mitad del siglo XX, como Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, Isamu Noguchi, Franz Kline, Helen Frankenthaler, Wifredo Lam, Roberto Matta, Jesús Rafael Soto, Louise Nevelson y George Segal. El museo ha continuado su labor bajo la misión original de presentar algunas de las manifestaciones más relevantes del arte contemporáneo. Con el paso de los años, al acervo fundacional se han incorporado ejemplos de diversas prácticas y formatos, consolidando así una institución que, hasta el día de hoy, mantiene vigente el proyecto iniciado por Olga y Rufino Tamayo.

Las imágenes referenciales vinculadas con las obras aquí mostradas forman parte de la Colección Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo, INBAL- Secretaría de Cultura, Colección Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo / Fundación Olga y Rufino Tamayo y Programa Pago en Especie. Aún cuando las piezas forman parte de los acervos del museo, el artista o su patrimonio pueden estar representados por una agencia que supervisa los derechos de autor del artista. Las personas que soliciten el uso de las imágenes deben buscar a los titulares de los derechos patrimoniales, o bien, al autor, sus herederos o la sociedad de gestión colectiva que lo represente. Por lo que es absoluta responsabilidad de quien haga uso de ellas el contar con previa autorización.
