The Museo Tamayo's collection comprises over a thousand works by national and international artists. Throughout their lives, Olga and Rufino Tamayo amassed a significant collection, which was later donated to the Museo Rufino Tamayo. Their intention was to offer the Mexican public the opportunity to experience international art of the highest quality, representative of the various movements that emerged after World War II. The collection includes pieces by some of the most renowned artists of the second half of the 20th century, such as Pablo Picasso, Henry Moore, Isamu Noguchi, Franz Kline, Helen Frankenthaler, Wifredo Lam, Roberto Matta, Jesús Rafael Soto, Louise Nevelson, and George Segal. The museum has continued its work under its original mission of presenting some of the most relevant expressions of contemporary art. Over the years, examples of diverse practices and formats have been added to the founding collection, thus consolidating an institution that, to this day, keeps alive the project initiated by Olga and Rufino Tamayo.
