Rehearsing the language
Experimental laboratory for textual and aesthetic supports
As part of the International LGBTTTIQ+ Pride Day, Rojo Génesis will guide the workshop Rehearsing the language. Experimental laboratory for textual and aesthetic supports, which proposes an approach to textual interventions and graphic supports from a critical perspective, beyond the logic of the “pamphlet” and instrumental communication. In addition to understanding these media as vehicles of political messages, the activity will focus on their visual dimension and their capacity to circulate collectively inside and outside the exhibition space.
Taking as a reference the intervention Trans feminicide is not a work of art (2014), the workshop will address a genealogy of printed arts and writing focused on lesbian, homosexual and trans expressions starting in the seventies (from the typographic poster and militant graphics to experimental and conceptual editorial practices), understanding text as an image, spatial gesture and aesthetic operation.
Through writing exercises, file review, collective work and aesthetic experimentation, the participants will produce graphic materials that will explore the relationships between contemporary art, history, politics and public registration practices, with the invitation to incorporate, contextualize and circulate them during mobilizations.
