Art Mediation Program in Museums

The Museo Tamayo has transformed its volunteer program into the new Art Mediation Program in Museums, focused on theoretical and practical research on mediation experiences, critical pedagogies and public programs in museums.

The first edition proposes to delve into, deepen and complicate reflection based on a reconsideration of central questions such as: is the museum a school? , what are the fields of action of mediation? and how is research linked to pedagogical curatorship?

The historical and social contexts of the areas of education and mediation in museums and art institutions will be reviewed, as well as the construction of exhibition resources, in order to once again question the limits of mediation to create a platform for specialization and criticism.

The program lasts 100 hours spread over eight months and is comprised of two modules:

• Intensive study group (October to December 2026): Sessions given by specialists with extensive experience in artistic mediation, curatorship and cultural management, during which topics of mediation, body and experience, education in museums, pedagogies, Latin American and international references in art education, art interpretation and design methodologies will be addressed.

• Training camp (January to May 2027). The members are involved in the design, development and implementation of artistic mediation activities and processes related to the programs of the Tamayo Museum, guided by the team of the Department of Mediation.

‍ Participation Requirements:

• Have professional training in the arts, humanities or social sciences: visual arts, art history, cultural management, architecture, design, communication, anthropology, pedagogy, sociology and the like.
• Interest in contemporary art and in working with diverse groups.
• Have the time and commitment necessary to be part of the program for eight months:
  • Intensive study group: attend at least 85% of the sessions.
  • Traineeship: Attend at least three hours every two weeks (six hours per month) to get involved in museum activities and programs.

Activities:

• Group study sessions and discussion of texts.
• Research and independent study on the contents of the museum's exhibitions and programs.
• Participate in artistic mediation activities for diverse audiences: guided tours, creative activities, workshops, talks, among others.

Selection process:

Due to its personalized nature, the program has a limited space. Applications received through the application form will be reviewed to call for an interview period and inform the selected people about the next steps in the process.
