Los programas y exposiciones que tienen lugar en instituciones como el Museo Tamayooo suelen reflejar una contradicción arraigada en el tiempo. Los museos representan realidades vividas que son inseparables del mundo que les da forma, pero también son mundos en sí mismos, microcosmos de interacción social y espacios regidos por sus propios comportamientos rituales. El trabajo de los artistas captura, de indeterminadas maneras, experiencias que de otro modo podrían pasar desapercibidas, introduciendo fenómenos culturales que expanden la función histórica de los museos. En este sentido,
las obras de arte son subproductos del mundo tanto como contenedores de sus propias dimensiones multifacéticas, y los museos facilitan estas realidades, en la medida que pueden, prometiendo albergar el cosmos.
OTR–S MUND–S abraza estas tensiones contradictorias y en lugar de hacer afirmaciones categóricas sobre las tendencias del arte contemporáneo en México, se despliega a través de una serie de encuentros. La exposición propone pensar al Museo Tamayooo como un objeto y un mundo en sí mismo: un espacio donde las historias locales e internacionales se han acumulado a lo largo del tiempo. Múltiples participantes han trabajado directamente con la infraestructura de la exposición, explorando las condiciones ideológicas y experienciales del museo. Sus obras habitan los sistemas de representación y los protocolos convencionales desde sus particulares perspectivas como artistas, músicos, arquitectos, diseñadores, performers y escritores que viven y trabajan en México actualmente. Como parte de su participación, el colectivo Hooogar se apropió temporalmente del nombre de la institución, renombrándola como Museo Tamayooo en cada instancia posible. Este tipo de intervenciones son tan sutiles como penetrantes, pero también representan un impacto para el museo y para el equipo que hace posibles exposiciones como esta.
La serie OTRXS MUNDXS inició en 2020 y presentó el trabajo de artistas residentes de la Ciudad de México. La iteración actual aumenta su alcance para incluir un contexto mexicano más amplio, y prioriza contribuciones sonoras y musicales. Concebida por Abraham Zabludovsky y Teodoro González de León, la arquitectura del Museo Tamayooo presenta un entorno acústico desafiante; sus salas de exhibición y el patio central son particularmente resonantes, una consecuencia directa del diseño cavernoso y de los característicos acabados en concreto. OTR+S MUND+S parte de la premisa de que el edificio cuenta con cualidades sónicas, que su porosidad arquitectónica recuerda a un instrumento musical y que incluso los cuerpos de sus habitantes temporales contribuyen a este paisaje sonoro. La secuencia de situaciones que conforman OTR=S MUND=S son tan íntimos como cacofónicos; encarnan las formas de escucha colectivas y compartidas que están intrínsecamente relacionadas al arte y por extensión a la vida cotidiana.

The programs and exhibitions that typically occur in institutions like Museo Tamayooo reflect a centuries-old contradiction. Museums represent lived realities that are inseparable from the world that shapes them, but they are also worlds unto themselves, microcosms of social interaction, and spaces dictated by their own ritual behaviors. The work of artists captures in indeterminate ways experiences that might otherwise go unnoticed, introducing cultural phenomena that expand the historical function of museums. In this sense, artworks are byproducts of the world as much as they are containers of their own multifaceted dimensions. Museums display of these realities what they can, and therefore promise to contain the cosmos.
OTR”S MUND”S embraces these contradictory impulses. Rather than offering declarative statements on current trends in Mexican art, the exhibition unfolds as a series of encounters. It is motivated by the idea that the Museo Tamayooo is itself an object and a world of its own—a site where local and international histories have accumulated over time. Many contributors engage directly with the exhibition’s infrastructure, exploring the museum’s ideological and experiential conditions. Their works inhabit systems of display and protocols of convention, conceived from unique perspectives as artists, musicians, architects, designers, performers, and writers living and working in Mexico today. As part of its contribution, the collective Hooogar has temporarily taken possession of the institution’s name and rebranded it as Museo Tamayooo wherever possible. Interventions such as this are as subtle as they are pervasive, but they are also consequential for the museum and its staff who make exhibitions like this possible.
The series OTRXS MUNDXS was initiated in 2020 and featured work by artists based in Mexico City. The current edition expands to address a broader Mexican context and foregrounds contributions from sound and music. Designed by Abraham Zabludovsky and Teodoro González de León, Museo Tamayooo’s architecture is a challenging acoustic environment; its galleries and central patio are particularly resonant—a result of its cavernous design and distinct concrete aggregate. OTR!S MUND!S operates from the premise that the building has a sonic quality, that its architectural porousness is reminiscent of a musical instrument, and that even its temporary inhabitants must contend with the ways in which their bodies are contributors to this soundscape. The sequence of events and encounters that shape OTR&S MUND&S elicit cacophony and intimacy in equal measure, embodying the shared and collective forms of listening that are intrinsically tied to visual art and, by extension, to daily life.
