A través de dibujos, esculturas, disfraces e instalaciones, los animales migratorios de Petrit Halilaj (n. 1986) se congregan al rededor de una estructura flotante a escala que representa la casa que él y su familia construyeron en Pristina, la capital del país, luego de que su antiguo hogar en Runik quedara destruido por los bombardeos de la guerra de Kosovo. Como parte de la exposición, Halilaj también ha inscrito una gallina —un ave conocida por ser una de las pocas incapaces de volar— en un avión Boeing 737 operado por Aeroméxico. Tanto la representación arquitectónica de su casa familiar como el avión, sirven como contenedores de recuerdos de pertenencia y los sueños de migración de Halilaj.
Petrit Halilaj: RUNIK es la primera exposición individual del artista en América Latina, y demuestra cómo el arte ha sido su vehículo para viajar y aprender del mundo, pero también un medio a través del cual puede explorar y expresar emociones complicadas en torno a la historia de su tierra natal y su identidad. Un actual residente de Berlín que mantiene fuertes raíces en Kosovo y vínculos estrechos con varios lugares del mundo, Halilaj ahora entiende que la noción del hogar está enraizada en los lazos afectivos.

Through drawing, sculptures, costumes, and installations, Petrit Halilaj’s (b. 1986) migratory creatures gather around a scaled floating structure of the house he and his family built in the country’s capital of Pristina after their old home in Runik was destroyed during the bombings of the Kosovo War. As part of the exhibition, Halilaj has also inscribed a large scale chicken—a bird famously known as one of the few unable to fly—onto a Boeing 737 aircraft operated by Aeroméxico. Both the architectural rendition of his family home and the airplane serve as vessels for Halilaj’s memories of belonging and dreams of migration.
Petrit Halilaj: RUNIK is the artist’s first solo exhibition in Latin America, showcasing how art has not only been his vehicle to travel and learn about the world, but also a medium through which he can explore and express complicated emotions about the history of his homeland and his identity. Now living in Berlin but with strong roots in Kosovo and close ties to several places around the world, Halilaj’s understanding of home is anchored in bonds of affection.
